#58: G is for Graphics

G is for Graphics.

Grotesque graphics, to be exact.

This has to be the most uninspiring graphic I have ever born witness to.

Dear Promotionally Inept Designer: Ocher and brown mustard yellow and red rock do not lend themselves to thirst-quenching need. Understanding this - and heading it off at the pass - might further your career. Waving it off and paying no heed will doom you.

I makes me crave ketchup and mustard slathered on a hot dog. But I suspect that is not a hot dog boat but a drink cup, right?

Ick. Looks more like primordial soup than a beverage...

Strangely enough, it makes me think of Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper.

Not that it is making me feel particularly thirsty at the moment, but it seems like it's not as offputting to me as to other commenters.

I'm kind of falling in with Lisana. Oceans of cherry cola with ice cube flotsam and a trendy Japanese feel; not so bad, if that's what you're into.

Errrr... it's a cup. Am I missing something here? The outside of the cup does not have any bearing on what's inside it. I am in charge of what's in my cup, so if I know there's coffee in there or Coke or what have you, the design on the outside makes no difference. Is it just me? What the design is does not make me desire the contents any more or less. Go figure.

coffee cup? Um....yeah no!

Topsurf... I wasn't saying that there was coffee in the cup. I realise it's meant to hold a frosty beverage. The point I was trying to make before you started to pick holes in what I wrote is this... no matter what's on the outside of the cup, I will still enjoy what I have inside the cup... because i ordered it, and i know what it is. The design on the exterior makes no difference... if I wasn't thirsty I wouldn't have ordered it. Btw, it is possible to have an iced mocha in one of those. Or a frappuccino. Or whatever. Come to think of it, I need one right about now.

Dear Mr. Hickmott:

I am in complete agreement with you. Regardless of the exterior, s’long as the contents are to my enjoyment, no problems.

While I stand by my opinion, the graphics on this particular cup – hideous though they may be – did their job: They got my attention. And obviously the attention of others as well. So, no matter how craptastic they may be, they garnered awareness.

Still, you do not associate black and blue with Christmas, do you? Pink and lavender with St. Patty’s Day? Sky blue with a stop sign? Herein is my point. The colors Mr. Advertising Guy (or Gal) used were a complete and total fail in my book.

I appreciate your comment.
